The message that arrives via WhatsApp promises R$ 50, but is actually a phishing attempt so that thieves can steal the data
Have you recently received messages via Whatsapp with a promotion called “Nubank Natal Feliz” with an offer of R $ 50 in PIX for customers who access a link – or something similar? Warning: This is the latest scam that cyber criminals are running.
- TikTok’s ‘invisible body’ trend is being used to spread viruses
- Twitter | The new leak exposes millions of users
“OR Nubank informs you that you are not running the Merry Christmas campaign. If you have been hit by this message, do not click, know that it is a scam”, warned Nubank itself. This is yet another phishing attempt, a scam in which bandits take advantage of famous events or brands to seduce users through “unique opportunities”.
The sense of urgency often distracts people, and makes them victims when it takes them to fake pages or runs malicious programs that can steal information, spread the scam among contacts, and open loopholes for more complex cyber-attacks.
βThe fake promotion text is accompanied by an image of the Nubank logo and also encourages customers to act quickly, before all fake Pix coupons are redeemed. Enabling a sense of urgency with biased messaging is a social engineering tactic that makes a person click on the link without a second thought,β Nubank said in its statement
How to protect yourself from the Nubank Christmas Pix scam?
If you have received such a message via WhatsApp or social media, be wary. Do not click on the link, let alone provide personal information. And extra caution with your Pix key: If it’s your CPF number, don’t disclose it, so scammers don’t have access to it. Report and block the message through the functionality of the app.
If you clicked on the link, please contact the Nubank team at service channels and see also the Naked SOSthe company’s emergency guide with clear indications on what to do in the face of an attempted scam, fraud and other digital crimes.
