Midfielder Ezatolah was shaken by his elimination but thanked the fans for their support at the World Cup.

– First of all, I want to thank all our fans, who supported us today as always. The only thing I can tell them is that I am truly sorry. On behalf of former players and our group, we didn’t get a chance to qualify for the next round. But football and life is happening so this could be a good lesson for us. At least for our young people like me and for the future. I hope our fans and people in Iran will forgive us – said the player.

This was Iran’s sixth participation in the World Cup and once again the team failed to advance to the round of 16. Outside the four lines, in addition to the boos of the fans themselves, there was still the protest of the fans for the rights of women who generate conflicts in the country. Despite this, the victory against Wales was celebrated, the first against European teams, in the second round.
