Madmartigan (Val Kilmer) will not be present in the new series of ‘Willow’ released on Disney +

Willow Ufgood is the current sorcerer of the Nelwyn village, and he will have to face a new danger together with a young group of aspiring heroes in the magical world created by George Lucas in 1988. But even if you are not alone in this new adventure, he will surely miss his partner and friend Madmartiganthe character he played Val Kilmer.

Jon Kasdanshowrunner of the series, and the protagonist Warwick Davis have remembered Kilmer in an interview for Collider and have spoken about his absence: “It was going to be an important part of the story we were telling., and it really had to be. Because we were telling a story that had so many young characters, and they were all searching for his identity, the search for Madmartigan and the question of what had happened to him was right at the heart of the story we were telling. We knew that he would be interwoven in this search in a fundamental way, to see where he was and what had become of him and what he had given up.. That question continues all season. We always knew we wanted to reward it, one way or another, and we had a lot of ideas about how to leave it open.”

“Because he himself Val couldn’t finally come to Wales and working with us, we added the new character, a friend of Madmartigan’s, who could give us some clues about his whereabouts and deepen the mystery around what happened to him, in a way that expands on the story we were already telling. He was very satisfying and gave us an opportunity to add a whole new element to the show that we weren’t expecting.”

madmartigan is still around.” Kasdan states, leaving the door open to hope. “I’ve had many conversations with everyone involved, and our feeling is that he’s out there to be found, if the day ever comes. Warwick and I would love to see him pick up that sword again..”

Val Kilmer lost his voice to throat cancer, and the process of illness and recovery has obviously dented his career badly. The documentary ‘Val’ is a good review of what this ordeal has meant in the actor’s life. Nevertheless, there will always be the hope of seeing Madmartigan againeven if it is in the form of a cameo as has happened in the recent ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.
