Samuel L. Jackson responds to Tarantino’s anti-Marvel comments

Actor Samuel L. Jackson responded in a recent interview to director Quentin Tarantino’s comments that Marvel actors “aren’t movie stars.”

In an interview with the program The sightthe actor who in the past starred in Tarantino’s feature films such as “Pulp Fiction” and “The Hateful Eight”, has discussed the anti-Marvel comments of the director, who has already demonstrated more than once his displeasure with directing cinema modern and the “wonder” of Hollywood.

In one of these comments, Tarantino spoke about the actors who participate in Marvel films and how they end up being overshadowed by the characters they play, going so far as to say that these actors are not movie stars.

“It takes an actor to be these particular characters,” Jackson said on The View, when asked about Tarantino’s comments. “And the mark of movie stardom has always been, what, asses in seats [dos cinemas]🇧🇷 What are we talking about here?”

In addition to having several of the director’s films on his resume, Samuel L. Jackson has experienced iconic character Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2008, when he first appeared in “Iron Man.” The actor has reprized his role several times since then and will be in other future films from the studio.

“So it’s not a big deal for me to know that, well, apparently these actors are movie stars,” she added. “You know, Chadwick Boseman is the Black Panther. You cannot refute this. And he’s a movie star.

Quentin Tarantino’s comment was made during the podcast 2 Bears, 1 Cave, where the director said: “Part of the wonder of Hollywood is… there are all these actors who have become famous playing these characters. But they are not movie stars. Right? Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say this. I think it’s been said countless times… but it’s like, you know, these characters in the franchise become a star.”

In addition to Samuel L. Jackson, actor Simu Liu, who plays the character of Shang-Chi in the MCU, has given an emphatic response to these same comments from the director.

“If Tarantino and Scorsese were the only gatekeepers to movie stardom, I never would have had the opportunity to direct a $400 million plus film,” the Marvel actor said on Twitter. “I am in awe of their cinematic genius. They are transcendent authors. But they can’t point their noses at me or anyone else.”

He continued in a separate tweet: “No film studio is or ever will be perfect. But I’m proud to work with someone who has made ongoing efforts to improve diversity on screen, creating heroes who empower and inspire people in all communities everywhere. I loved the ‘Golden Age’ too…but it was white as hell.”
