Netflix wanted to cut a controversial line from “Wandinha”: see which one

The series ‘Wandinha’ premiered last week on Netflix but is already considered a big hit on the streaming platform and has broken audience records. Interestingly, the spin-off ‘Addams Family’ could have been presented with some differences regarding the plot dialogues.

This is because Netflix wanted to cut some lines from “Wandinha”. According to series co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, some dialogue was considered macabre, including some passages from the story’s protagonist. The platform was concerned that the spinoff might be too dark for audiences.

An example was cited by the creators. In the scene, Enid Sinclair, Wandinha’s roommate, tries to encourage the protagonist and says: “How about spending some time socializing?”. The teenager, with her ironic and morbid tone, replies: “I enjoy killing. Socialize not so much.

“Netflix has always been very supportive and executives were huge Addams Family fans, but we had executives who wanted to cut some lines,” Gough said in an interview with Indiewire. “However, this is the goal of ‘Wandinha’. Losing it or watering it down is a betrayal of character,” Millar added.

The creators also commented on the screen time Wandinha received in previous “Adams Family” productions and tell how they developed the series to be exactly different at that point.

“Because of the ‘Harry Potter’ of the whole story, should he then be in a regular school and be a fish out of water?” asked Miller. “She seemed to be a note and she would always need to get home at night to the family we (we) wanted to get away from.”

Biggest hit of the week among English-language series on Netflix, “Wandinha” tells the story of the teenager who is sent to attend the Never Again School. At the same time, he tries to unravel the mysteries involving his family and the city where he lives.

The series stars Jenna Ortega and was officially launched by Netflix on the 23rd. In addition to the protagonist, the cast includes Catherine Zeta-Jones, Cristina Ricci, Riki Lindhome, Percy Hynes White and Gwendoline Christie.
