Called Rashid, the rover weighs ten kilograms and measures half a meter long. The equipment is part of the country’s plan to assert itself in the space race. If the landing is successful, Hakuto-R will be the first lunar mission with the participation of the UAE.
“We’ve accomplished a lot in the six years since we started conceptualizing this project,” said ispace CEO Takeshi Hakamada.
The company, which has just 200 employees, says it “aims to extend the sphere of human life into space and create a sustainable world by providing low-cost, high-frequency transportation services to the Moon.”
NASA will hitchhike
