Spoilers for ‘The Walking Dead’ season 11 below!

‘The Walking Dead’ has released its last episode this month, giving the most loyal fans the return of two of the main characters of the series.

The end of the series (‘Rest in Peace’) saw the return of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and michonne (Danai Gurira), marking the context of his 2023 miniseries. This denouement, however, could have been quite different if the showrunners they would have decided to include the original ending they had shot, with adult versions of RJ and Judith.

As reported insidersthis deleted scene would have circled the start of the series.

Set in the future was focused on RJ and Judith in their 20s, accompanied by other adult versions of the younger cast of the series. We would have seen them searching for other survivors, driving down Atlanta Avenue that we saw Rick on during the pilot episode.

An Instagram post from the final episode’s cinematographer, Duane Charles Manviller, confirmed the existence of this alternate ending.

Sharing a photo of the cast, Manwiller wrote: “First of all, I’m impressed by all the people who knew about the original ending. I love how the series ended, but I have to say that shooting that sequence was quite fun.

Confirming that the shoot took place in just one day, he added: “I hope we get to see that scene one day.

Ultimately, the series decided to go in a different direction, removing that scene to let Rick and Michonne have the spotlight.

We had shot a scene, but when the outcome was decided, we felt that it wouldn’t mesh with Rick and Michonne’s scene at all. So, we removed it,” Greg Nicotero told insiders.

The showrunnerAngela Kang, also chatted with decide and stated that, originally, “had written a final scene, completely different“.

In this case, Kang did not go into details, but did add that “it was something that it had worked well in pre-production and that everyone liked it. However, it was one of those cases where, seeing everything together, we think: ‘this doesn’t work’.”
