The exaggerations of those who lead a fitness life compromise the oral cavity
Regulated diet, low alcohol consumption, sleep and constant physical activity are the main precautions for those who lead life lightly. However, these conditions are not enough and some excessive consumption in fitness life affects oral health.
REFLECTIONS ON THE FITNESS LIFE
The oral health of those who exercise should receive the same attention as the musculature and other regions, which are directly related to performance. In this sense, oral complications compromise the region and performance in training and competition.
Marcela O’Neal is a dentist and believed that certain diets that most athletes follow allow for problems associated with the oral cavity to appear. 🇧🇷They consume a lot of calories throughout the day, such as protein bars and sports supplements, which are acidic and high in sugar. These foods increase oral respiration, reduce saliva flow, and leave the region dry in ideal conditions for bacteria to appear,” he said.
O’Neal added that the the diet “turbined” by sugars and incorrect brushing compromise the quality of the smile, factors that interfere with the functioning of the body. Other risks are tooth decay, gingivitis, dental erosion and bruxism for those who practice sports.
“During periods of irritation, the human body releases hormones that produce a high level of adrenaline. This change can cause the so-called pro-inflammatory effect, causing the body to potentiate the onset of periodontal disease,” he noted.
The nutritional, physiotherapy and training proposals are priorities together with oral health for those who want to be 100% fit. “The ideal is to brush your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes and do the proper cleaning between your teeth and tongue. Chewing sugarless gum and rinsing the area with water after meals when brushing is not possible is also a option,” concluded Marcello.
DEFICIT
It is the kind of topic that deserves attention not only from those who are experts in the fitness movement, i.e. this topic is relevant to the entire Brazilian population. Furthermore, the one who raised this topic was the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) through a survey carried out in 2019 and published in 2020.
This work found that only 53% of Brazilians use floss, toothbrush and toothpaste. She also explained that 89% clean less than twice a day.
