Germany beat Costa Rica, 4-2, this Thursday (1st), at Al Bayt Stadium, for the last round of Group E, but were eliminated from the World Cup in Qatar due to goal difference compared to Spain.
This is the second time in a row that the four-times world champion has been knocked out in the group stage.
In a surprising game, with two board changes, Gnabry scored early. Soon after, Tejeda and Vargas turned to Costa Rica, but Havertz scored twice and Fullkrug doubled the lead for the Germans.
Despite the win, Germany held the same four points as Spain, who were defeated 2-1 by Japan in their other group game. However, they deteriorated on goal difference.
The Japanese qualified at the top of the group, with six points, while the Spanish finished in second place.
Now, Japan will face Croatia in the round of 16 next Monday (5). Spain will face Morocco on Tuesday (6). 🇧🇷
