Currently, most banking services are not suitable for people with disabilities. According to the company, 90% of visually impaired people have been the victim of fraud or experienced an error at a point of sale. This data led Thales to develop a solution to this problem in collaboration with Handsome1, a French fintech specializing in solutions for people with disabilities.
How does it work?
The resource functions as a connected device that receives the value from the store terminal and communicates it to the mobile application via Bluetooth. The customer can hear the information through the telephone speaker or headphones. The novelty, certified by Visa e MasterCardit is going to be marketed shortly by several banks, which have already approved the technology.
Finally, to use the Voice Payment Card, the user only needs to install an application associated exclusively with the card on his smartphone. When making a payment, the application will voice the transaction amount before users validate it with their password.
“At Thales, we know that innovation has the potential to solve many problems. That is why, with the support of Handsome¹ and based on Thales’ extensive experience in developing secure and convenient payment solutions, we have decided to address the concerns faced by blind and visually impaired people with disabilities. Since then, it seems that the solution has proved useful for other people with disabilities. We are excited to see our innovations help create more sustainable and responsible payment solutions,” said Bertrand Knopf, Vice President, Banking and of Payments at Thales.
