Wednesday Addams’ adventures at Never Again Academy have only just begun…
The premiere of ‘Wednesday’, the series directed by Tim Burton on Netflix, has taken us into the classrooms of ‘Never Again’, the school for social misfits where Jenna Ortega gets into the pale skin of Wednesday Addams. The first season of ‘Wednesday’ has been marked by mysteries and, although the psychic and detective skills of the little Addams have revealed almost all of them, at the end of the eighth and final episode the door seems open to continue her story. Will we have a second season of ‘Wednesday’?
Of course, it won’t be because of the numbers: ‘Wednesday’ has broken all viewing records on Netflix, even surpassing ‘Stranger Things’ and becoming one of the most viewed Netflix series in its history. According to their data, the series accumulated 341.2 million hours of viewing worldwide, leaving behind the 335 million hours of season 4 of ‘Stranger Things’ in the week of May 30 to June 5.
In an interview with Empire, the co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Miller have revealed they are optimistic about the potential future of ‘Wednesday’, referring to episodes aired as a “first” season of the show. Letting it down that he and Millar have discussed what might come next among themselves, Gough says they’re looking forward to exploring the rest of the ‘Addams Family’ universe. “Miles and I are talking to each other about it. There is definitely a lot more to explore in the world of the Addamses.“
‘Wednesday’: Has a second season been confirmed?
For now Netflix has not commented on the matter, but we have already seen that it will not be for lack of ideas (and desire) of the creators. It is also unclear if Tim Burton would return as director, since in the first season he has only directed half the episodes and his fellow filmmakers. Gandja Monteiro and James Marshall could take over (or new names).
‘Wednesday’, season 2: Synopsis
The possibilities are endless. The logical thing would be to situate the plot in a new school year in ‘Never again’, following the same structure as the ‘Harry Potter’ movies (with which the Netflix series shares many parallels). In an interview with TVLine, the creator talked about the possible story of season 2 and how the protagonist will have to learn to deal with her friendships (and her emotions):
“The show is really about a girl who sees the world in black and white, and has to learn that there are shades of gray too. I think like any relationship or friendship, it can be complicated by other factors. It’s never going to be easy. And it’s really her learning to navigate the ups and downs of friendship”
‘Wednesday’, season 2: Cast
Obviously, if a second season is confirmed the return of Jenna Ortega is forced as Wednesday Addams. The actress had a huge challenge ahead of her, since Christina Ricci’s Wednesday is an icon of popular culture.
