The Black Tower, acclaimed literary series from the king of terror, Stephen King, will win a television adaptation. The series will star Mike Flanagan, who recently left Netflix, where he has produced shows such as The Hill House haunt And The Curse of Bly Manorand signed with Prime Video.
Despite having a contract with Prime Video, the adaptation of The Black Tower it won’t necessarily debut there. Flanagan is expected to offer the production to several studios, leaving the door open for others to take on the project.
The Black Tower combines elements of western, fantasy and horror, in a total of eight books, one short story and one children’s book. According to Flanagan, who announced the news in an interview with Deadline, he expects the project to run for five seasons, followed by two movies.
“I have a pilot script that I’m excited about and a very detailed outline for the first season and a larger outline for the subsequent seasons,” the director said. Flanagan also expressed gratitude to Stephen King himself, claiming he landed the project after submitting “a very, very detailed outline” of what King had in mind.
In response, Stephen King handed over the adaptation rights to Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy from his partner production company, Intrepid Pictures. “Having lived with this project for as long as I have, I have an enormous amount of stuff I’ve been working on in my brain,” Flanagan said.
Mike Flanagan is one of the most acclaimed horror directors today, with several blockbuster films and series produced under his command.
