Its director, James Cameron, has been asked about the possibility of bringing ‘Avatar’ to television. And this is what he has answered!
It seems incredible, but more than ten years have passed since we saw ‘Avatar’, one of the highest grossing films in history, in the cinema. Now, a decade later, its second part is about to hit theaters. Hallelujah! ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ opens on December 16 and we have no doubt that it will repeat the success of the first installment.
James Cameron returns to direct this blockbuster, which is set 10 years after the first battle of Pandora between the ‘Na’vi’ and humans. Here we will see Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington), who is living with his family and his tribe in peace, but who must leave his home to go into the sea and make pacts with other ‘Na’vi’, with the aim of ending an ancient threat that returns to haunt his species.
But beware, ‘Avatar’ could not be left alone in the cinema… On the occasion of the promotion of the film, James Cameron has been asked about the possibility of extending and developing the universe also in a television series. And he hasn’t ruled it out! Does this mean we could have an ‘Avatar’ series in the future? Well, it may be, although we would have to wait a bit for it. According to the also director of ‘Titanic’, artificial intelligence techniques and special effects would need to be greatly improved in order to reproduce the quality of the films on the small screen.
“The problem with CGI-generated characters is that they cost a lot of money and take a lot of work, which doesn’t really work on TV. But come back in 10 years, when there is more knowledge about it, and hopefully we can do it.. It is possible that we can get to do a series then”, Cameron commented in an interview for ‘The Hollywood Reporter’. Although hey, if we’ve waited 10 years to enjoy another ‘Avatar’ movie, we can wait a little longer, right? We imagine that if done, this would be broadcast on some platform like HBO…
