Antonio Banderas let slip in a recent interview that the return of Shrek could be near. The actor has since voiced Puss in Boots in the franchise Shrek 2 to the character’s most recent solo film, Puss in Boots 2: The Last Order🇧🇷
During the Red Sea Film Festival, the actor talked about playing the character many years ago (via Deadline🇧🇷 “I’ve been that cat for almost 20 years,” said Banderas. “The first time I made Puss in Boots I was working on Broadway, so I did my first takes there. I’ve done five movies. There will probably be another one and Shrek will probably be back.
It’s not entirely clear if Antonio Banderas’ comments are referring to an appearance by Shrek in another Puss in Boots solo film or if a fifth film in the main series could be on the way. But, one way or another, apparently the ogre Shrek will return in the near future.
In 2018, Variety stated that more films in the franchise shrek would be on the way, but nothing has happened since then for a return of the character.
In Puss in Boots 2: The Last Order, the Puss has already lost eight of his nine lives and sets out on a mission to restore them. In addition to Antonio Banderas, the film’s voice cast includes big names such as Salma Hayek, Florence Pugh, Ray Winstone, Olivia Colman, John Mulaney and Harvey Guillén.
As for Antonio Banderas, the actor will be the protagonist Indiana Jones and the Call of Fate alongside Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen.
Puss in Boots 2: The Last Order will hit Brazilian theaters on January 5, 2023. Shrek 5 actually take off, there is no release date yet.
