‘Wednesday’ has quite a few Tim Burton movie references, did you spot them all?

There are many details of “Wednesday” that, at first glance, may seem insignificant, but, upon careful examination, reveal a connection with other fictions.

For example, did you notice that Uncle Thing was in the Netflix series?

Tim Burton movie references in Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ series

Although the acclaimed director was not responsible for the 8 episodes, his mark was left throughout the production.

The clearest evidence was the “easter eggs” in his old films, which for many could go unnoticed.

For example, when Enid and Ajax visit Uriah’s Heap taxidermy shop, they are uncomfortable with the large collection of decorated rodents. What many may not have noticed was that some of these animals are dressed like Tim Burton movie characters.

This was confirmed by Mark Scruton, production designer, on the Tudum site.

In an interview with Variety magazine he also revealed that the wind sails that decorate the Jericho cafe where young people spend their free time are related to other productions of the director.

Of course, these details of the Netflix series seem to be much more under wraps, since it’s a Willy Wonka-like hat and a headless horseman for ‘Sleepy Hollow’.

The truth is that the references to Tim Burton’s films in “Wednesday” were not limited to the town where the “normals” live. For example, in Principal Weems’ office you can see a small head preserved in a glass container, does that sound familiar?

In ‘Beetlejuice’ a very similar character appears, a ghost waiting beside Barbara in the waiting room of the afterlife.

Media outlets like Looper and Screen Rant also pointed out that Merlina’s popcorn container on her date with Tyler could be a reference to the character’s black and white costume from the 80s.

Without a doubt, Tim Burton’s mark was present in the design of the villain of the “Wednesday” series, since Hyde (whose ending he left unknown to the public) has the same big eyes, face and sharp teeth that we have seen in his other productions .

Finally, there are the costumes the Nevermore students wear to the Poe Cup. Fans will remember that Enid and Merlina dress up as cats because their ship is called ‘The Black Cat’.

However, the design is very similar to that of Catwoman in “Batman Returns”, a film directed by Tim Burton in 1992.
