Steven Spielberg opens a window to his childhood with his new film with Paul Dano, Michelle Williams and more. Road to the Oscars 2023?
‘The Fabelmans’ is the new (great) film by Steven Spielberg, which is already among the most anticipated films of 2023 and which could sweep the next 2023 Oscars. World premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award, the first reviews of ‘The Fabelmans’ made it clear that we are facing an important film of the season and, by the way, one of the most emotional among the best films by its director, Steven Spielberg. It makes sense: it’s based on the director’s own childhood and family.
After ‘West Side Story’, the remake that made us sing and dance last year as one of the best films of 2021 and that confirmed that the filmmaker has a rope for a while (although the conditions of the pandemic caused the film not to have the results well-deserved box office sales), Spielberg will also be the penultimate work of composer John Williams, who has already stated that he will retire from the world of cinema after signing the score for the next installment of ‘Indiana Jones’, scheduled for June 2023. Emotional for Double match! we review everything we know about ‘The Fabelmans’: release date, synopsis, cast, trailer and much more.
‘The Fabelmans’: release date
After its premiere in the United States on November 11, ‘Los Fabelmans’ by Steven Spielberg will be released in Spain on February 10, 2023.
‘The Fabelmans’: synopsis
‘The Fabelmans’ will be a story halfway between fiction and reality about Spielberg’s own childhood, whose alter ego will be a 16-year-old Sammy Fabelman during his teenage years in Arizona after World War II, getting started in the world of cinema and dealing with a complicated relationship with his parents.
At the Toronto Festival, the filmmaker shared the difficulties of the process of bringing his experiences to the big screen: “I thought it was going to be a lot easier than it turned out, because I certainly know the material and all the characters my whole life.Spielberg said along with his co-writer Tony Kushner. “However, I found that this was, for me, a very overwhelming experience, because I was trying in a semi-empirical way to recreate great memories, not only in my life, but also in the lives of my three sisters and my mother and father, they are no longer with us. Emotionally, it was a very, very difficult experience to get over.”.
‘The Fabelmans’: cast
gabriel labelle has the responsibility of interpreting Spielberg’s avatar in front of the cameras, Sammy Fabelman. According to him he was joking the director, cast him because he “wanted to get someone who was really handsome and sexy.”, said. “And from Canada.”
Jokers aside, the truth is that LaBelle has more than complied according to the first reviews coming from Toronto, but those who have surprised the most have been Michelle Williams and Paul Dano as the Fabelmans themselvesthe parents of the child.
Deadline’s Pete Hammond has gone so far as to state in his review that “Williams is amazing as Mitzi, a mother desperately trying to keep her family together who can’t help but follow her heart. Williams is heartbreakingly great. Dano is excellent as the genuinely kind and loving father who is torn between pursuing his own career and caring for his wife and family in increasingly difficult circumstances.”
The cast is completed Seth Rogen, Julia Butters, Judd HirschJeannie Berlin, Oakes Fegley, Robin Bartlett, Gabriel Bateman, Nicolas Cantu, Sam Rechner, Chloe East, Isabelle Kusman and Jonathan Hadary, with a special appearance by himself David Lynch.
