Star Wars Clone Attack: With Anakin, this scene should have been even darker

We are in the middle of an attack by clones, the second part of the famous Star Wars saga. Returning to the sands of his home planet, hoping to find his mother there, Anakin Skywalker learns in despair that the latter has recently disappeared, who was kidnapped by a group of Tuscan attackers a month before his arrival.

In an unforgettable scene that was particularly inspired by the epic score of John Williams, young Jedi jumps into Spider-Man and Mirby’s tattooed dunes, an angry and uncontrollable desire for revenge. Under the two red rays of the incoming sun he crosses canyons, crosses plains, reads Java witnesses.

Short, but very intense, this scene (at the end of which Anakin finally finds his dying mother and methodically destroys those responsible for the tragedy) could have lasted much longer and taken on an even darker tone.

Indeed, initially, as sound engineer Ben Bart reveals in the film’s audio commentary, even Anakin’s journey should have taken him to the remnants of his predecessors:

“We shot a lot more material for Anakin Travel in search of a mother”– says Ben Bart. “There was a scene when Anakin was crossing a field of corpses, where people who went to look for him were destroyed and burned on the sand. I was very sad to find him taken out, but we still had to. “Limit the time it took him to find her.”

No doubt George Lucas finally decided to cut out the given images to energize the editing of his feature film, but it might also have prevented him from falling into an overly macabre film that could shock the youngest viewer, thus alienating him from the family spectacle that usually happens.
