Why did Meghan wear purple and white in her Netflix documentary? Theories of its appearance

After “Harry and Meghan” premiered on Netflix on Dec. 8, attention has focused on what the royal couple decided to reveal about their story (although some fans found inconsistencies in their statements).

So, for example, the first 3 episodes of the documentary showed intimate details of the beginning of their relationship.

The second part of the production will tell, as the trailer revealed, their life after their marriage and the reasons why they decided to leave the British royal family.

Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took the opportunity to tell their story in their own voice (and not leave it in the hands of the tabloids), there are those who speculate that the clothes the former actress chose for the documentary of Netflix was no accident.

In “Harry and Meghan,” a Netflix documentary, she revealed why she wore light clothing

During her time in the UK, Meghan Markle stood out by wearing light, neutral colors. What for many could be an insignificant detail, actually had two reasons, as she revealed in the Netflix documentary series.

He explained that, for one, he could “never” wear the same colors as Queen Elizabeth II or another “senior” member of the royal family.

That in itself limited her options (especially since Prince Harry’s grandmother was known for wearing bright colors), but also, the Duchess of Sussex didn’t want to stand out with her wardrobe choices:

“I used a lot of hushed tones, also to be able to go unnoticed. I wasn’t trying to stand out.”

Thus, it became clear that royal women’s outfits are usually well thought out and decisions are not taken lightly.

For this reason, specialized fashion media did not hesitate to ask what the meaning of the clothes that the mother of two chose to wear in front of the Netflix cameras would be.

It is worth noting that, according to what was seen in the first 3 episodes of the documentary “Harry and Meghan”, the prince’s wife chose only two outfits.

For her solo interviews, she chose an outfit made of a cashmere sweater in a shade of lilac or light blue, with a skirt in the same color.

According to Vogue magazine, the “top” is from the Krista Elsta brand, originally from Latvia. This publication claims that Meghan Markle chose the dress for 3 reasons: its relatively affordable price (it costs $189), the anonymity of the brand, and how easy it is to find a similar model in other stores.

For its part, the website The Zoe Report, founded by designer Rachel Zoe, emphasized that the pastel color means friendship, affection and, above all, freedom.

In addition, she pointed out that this is a variation of purple, which represents the feminist struggle since the suffragette era.

To talk to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle chose a completely white outfit: a slightly loose shirt, wide trousers and even nails in this color.

However, in his Netflix documentary, that choice would have nothing to do with what he lived inside the British crown.

Design director Tash Bradley told Hello! (in a note published on December 9, 2022) that:

“You wear white to clear your mind, to show that you have a clear mind and that you know yourself. (…) You are not hiding anything, you want to show purity. It’s a very brave move to wear an all-white suit.”

Regarding the “clarity” Meghan Markle tried to evoke with her outfit in her Netflix documentary, personal image consultant Melissa Lund agreed. When asked by the Express.co.uk newspaper, he also added:

“I think she’s trying to show that she has a new life (rebirth), at the same time she’s trying to look regal, a bit of a dichotomy, I know, but she still has her title.”
