The legacy of ‘El Chavo del 8’ lives on despite the fact that the program is no longer on the air or that its creator died 8 years ago.
Proof of this is that fans still wonder who the protagonist of the story lived with.
Likewise they have created all sorts of theories about the characters, such as the neighborhood was actually a mental asylum.
On this occasion, we will tell you why La Popis had to temporarily abandon fiction.
Florinda Meza told the story of “La popis”, a character from “El Chavo del 8”
It was in August 2015 when the wife of Roberto Gómez Bolaños told how the second character he played in the famous neighborhood came about.
As she recalled in an interview on the program “En compañía de…”, La Popis was not originally written in the script, but was born out of the need to replace Chavo’s other friend.
María Antonieta de las Nieves, who gave life to La Chilindrina, took a break to work on another TV program and, in her absence, they created Kiko’s cousin.
What many fans may not remember is that, shortly after her introduction to “El Chavo del 8”, the girl was absent for a few episodes of the television program.
Curiously, the departure of this character was not due to problems between “Chespirito” and Florinda Meza (as was the case with Carlos Villagrán and María Antonieta de las Nieves). Rather, it was due to the girl’s defining characteristic in fiction: the very nasal tone of her voice.
This letter was enough for Roberto Gómez Bolaños to reconsider his creation and led him to temporarily retire the character. When he returned, he kept the same personality and dynamic, but with a neutral tone of voice.
Of course, according to Florinda Meza’s story, “Chespirito” knew how to see this situation as a lesson for future circumstances.
In the same conversation, the actress recalled that the program “El Chavo del 8” was also born almost by accident: initially it was a “sketch” in which the characters did not even have names.
However, the audience liked the short story so much that the author received several letters praising it, so he decided to explore it further.
Of course, many of the papers were left unpainted for a while. Florinda Meza even recalled that, at first, Kiko’s mother was known simply by the nickname “La vieja chancluda.”
After much thought, “Chespirito” came to the conclusion that he should be named after his actress:
Although she didn’t like it at first, she had no choice but to accept it.
Did you know the reason why La Popis temporarily left “El Chavo del 8”?
