The Whale: Trailer highlights praise for Brendan Fraser’s performance

Indie studio A24 has released a new trailer for ‘The Whale’, highlighting the critical praise for actor Brendan Fraser’s performance. Known for playing the heartthrob protagonist of the series “The Mummy”, he appears completely transformed on the scene, as a morbidly obese man, belatedly trying to reconnect with his daughter.

Fraser was highly applauded at the film’s world premiere at the Venice Film Festival where he was considered one of the favourites, but ended up losing the Coppa Volpi to Colin Farrell in ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’.

In recent days, the actor has been nominated for Golden Globes, Critics Choice and Spirit Awards (the Oscar of independent cinema) for his performance.

His character is a professor who has earned the nickname of the whale after reaching a weight of 272 kilograms. Suffering from binge eating, he faces all kinds of hardships and rejection, including his own teenage daughter, played by Sadie Sink (“Stranger Things”).

Already showing in the United States, the film will only be released on February 9 in Brazil – and has no domestic video so far.
