The World Cup ends with the former player at the top of clashes and controversies
The ball rolled in the Qatar Cup on November 20, and Walter Casagrande has already gone on the attack. He went to the backline, passed by the opponents, dribbled, finished, took a corner and ran with his head into the box. With so much intensity, just what the Brazilian team lacked in the competition, Casagrande reaches the end of the Cup as a great scorer… of controversy.
The former star of Corinthians and the same national team has been involved in bullshit with different characters. Her quarrels with Neymar resurfaced in the cup and came to a head when the question was asked why Neymar had not anticipated his colleagues to take a penalty in the dispute over a place in the semi-finals with Croatia.
First he used his verve to criticize the formation of a reserve team in Brazil to meet Cameroon for the third round of the group stage. He took the stand against it days before the match. With the defeat of the national team, the first for African teams at the World Cup, Casagrande turned to coach Tite. In his comments he stated that those who said that the defeat “came at the right time” did not understand anything about football.
That same day, before Casão said it, another former star, Júnior, said during the match broadcast on TV Globo that the “defeat (for Cameroon) came at the right time”, as Brazil were already qualified for the round of 16 Finale.
In the midst of Brazil’s trip to Qatar, he was vehement in analyzing the images that went around the world with Ronaldo and some players of the current national team enjoying a dinner of meat soaked in gold. He considered it useless and nailed Ronaldo for interpreting the attitude as an example of total disconnection with the reality of the country.
He also fell out with other 2002 world champions, including Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Cafu and Kaká, who were watching Brazil matches from a VIP box at the invitation of FIFA. Casagrande called them FIFA’s “pirate parrots” and expressed his annoyance that some of them have publicly backed President Jair Bolsonaro for re-election.
Finally, Casagrande dueled with Tiago Leifert, who came out in defense of another 2002 champion, Marcos, after an exchange of digs on social media between the former goalkeeper and the former striker.
From this, in a new text of his column, on Uol, Casão said that the journalist (Tiago) “represents the reactionary bourgeoisie that imposes itself through the wallet”, accusing the former presenter of Big Brother Brasil (BBB) of having exploited his influence on Tv Globo, as the son of a station manager, to harm him, “to favor friendly commentators”.
The journalist responded to the accusations in a calm tone, denying that he had attempted to interrupt the trajectory of Casagrande or anyone else at Globo.
