“Wednesday”: the gay actor who succeeded in the Netflix series as Merlina’s suitor

Wednesday’s season one finale on Netflix left some in doubt as to whether Tyler Galpin really liked Merlina Addmas or was just playing with her to get revenge for the treatment his mother received at Nevermore Academy.

And it’s that Hunter Doohan’s performance as normie Tyler, who is the son of Jericho’s sheriff and a cafeteria worker, was so good that he not only fooled Merlina into thinking she liked him, but the audience as well.

It even kept many fans wondering until the very end if he really was Hyde’s monster or, after his identity was revealed, if he was doing it all to please or manipulate supposed teacher Thornhill (Christina Ricci).

But Hunter Doohan’s convincing performance didn’t just stop on screen, as not all fans know that the actor who plays Merlina’s suitor is gay in real life.

  • Christina Ricci also stars in “10 Things To Do Before We Break Up” free on ViX).

“Wednesday”: the actor who succeeded as Tyler is gay, he knows his history

Although Tyler shows interest in Merlina in the series and even gives her his first kiss, actor Hunter Doohan is openly gay, and in an interview with Queerty on November 27, 2022, he talked about the process of discovering his orientation.

The 28-year-old actor said a big part of his realization that he was gay was the 1998 series “Will & Grace,” which he met through his high school girlfriend.

“For me, it was definitely discovering ‘Will & Grace’ in high school, which my girlfriend showed me at the time. Her name is Grace and she is now my best friend. In fact, we moved to Los Angeles together. But that show was definitely my biggest exposure to queer culture up to that point. And I loved it.”

Professionally, Hunter Doohan began acting as an extra for several years until he landed roles in ‘Lost Pursuit’ (2012), ‘After You’ve Gone’ (2016), ‘Westworld’ (2018), ‘Truth be Told’ (2019) and “Your Honor” (2021).

‘Wednesday’: Who Is Tyler’s Actor Partner In Real Life?

Like several of his “Wednesday” co-stars who are married, Hunter Doohan married Fielder Jewett, who is a film producer and has been her boyfriend since at least 2018, when they went public with their relationship.

The couple got engaged on December 31, 2020, and their marriage lasted until June 2022, with famous actor Bryan Cranston (who you can watch in ‘Trumbo: Hollywood Blacklist’ for free on ViX) officiating the ceremony.
