The American pay channel Showtime has announced the renewal of “Yellowjackets” for its third season.

The detail is that there are still three months left to the premiere of the second year of production, which has a 100% approval on the Rotten Tomatoes site. The series, starring Christina Ricci (“Wandinha”), Juliette Lewis (“Secrets and Lies”), Melanie Lynskey (“Mrs. America”) and Tawny Cypress (“The Blacklist”) will return on March 24.

The series has attracted the attention of the public and critics for having as its starting point a story similar to that of “Survivors of the Andes” (1976), about the real crash of a plane with a Uruguayan rugby team that resorted to to cannibalism in order not to die of hunger in the snow of the Chilean mountains.

In “Yellowjackets”, the crash affects teenage soccer players, who survive a plane crash only to find themselves stranded in icy mountains, starving and menaced by wolves.

Written by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson (who worked together on “The Originals” and “Narcos”), the story takes place in two different moments. In addition to showing the time of the accident, it also deals with the lies they told after being rescued, meeting the adult characters again, 25 years later, when they are played by famous actresses, looking for a reckoning for what happened in the past.

“With the tremendous success of ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 1 and anticipation for Season 2, we wanted to maximize momentum by quickly moving Season 3 now,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and Paramount Media Networks. “The ambition of the series is only surpassed by its execution, and I’m grateful to the incredible creative team behind it, including Ashley, Bart, Jonathan [Lisco]eOne and the Showtime team for making it a success.”

For the second season have already been confirmed some important reinforcements in the cast, with the entrance of Elijah Wood (Frodo from “The Lord of the Rings”) in the role of an amateur detective, Simone Kessell (“Obi-Wan Kenoby” ) as the adult version of Lottie – Courtney Eaton’s character in storyline flashbacks – and Lauren Ambrose (“Servent”) as the adult version of Van – who is experienced by Liv Hewson in her teenage stage.

With the early renewal, the expectation is for Year Three to begin earlier and closer to the end of Season 2.

“Yellowjackets” is available in Brazil on the Paramount+ platform.
