Read the statement in full:
I just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and the news is sad, folks. After all, I won’t be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio in October to announce my return, before I was hired, this news isn’t the easiest, but it’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.
James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and everyone involved in the new universe the best of luck and the happiest of fortunes. To those who have stood by me over the years…we may grieve a little, but then we must remember…Superman will always be around.
Everything it stands for still exists, and the examples it gives us are still around. My turn to don the cape has passed, but what Superman believes in will never pass. It’s been a fun ride with all of you, back and forth.
