House of the Dragon: Actress Recounts Which Scene Was the Most Difficult to Record

the spin-off of game of Thrones🇧🇷 House of the Dragon, arrived in 2022 bringing us back to Westeros, but introducing several new characters, as it is set about 200 years before the original series. One such character is Queen Alicent Hightower, played by Emily Carey as a young girl, and later by Olivia Cooke, who took over her role after a long time in the storyline.

In a conversation with the The Hollywood Reporter, Cooke commented on the series, also revealing the scene he found most difficult to shoot during the first season. Anyone who has seen the series should already imagine the scene chosen by Alicent’s interpreter, one of the most evocative of the production.

The scene in question takes place in episode 8 of House of the Dragon, titled “The King of the Tides”. In it, Olivia Cooke’s A Alicent learns that her son Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) has raped a young servant girl named Dyana (Maddie Evans). After you hear information from the same servant, she confronts her son about her actions and slaps him across the face.

“Sara Hess wrote that episode, so I talked to her endlessly and the [diretora] Geeta Patel. Alicent must be in such a bad situation, because if she really supported her son as heir to the throne, if she believed this woman and denounced him, the whole dynasty would fall apart,” she explains. Alicent herself represents, and that is her children and the order.Your first thought is to love and protect your child as much as possible which is fucking terrible.

“But at the same time, her humanity gets the better of her and she can’t help but feel very sorry for this girl, but then an iron shield has to step in. There’s a task at hand, and that’s, ahem, scolding Aegon, but also calming down who knows. It was such a dark scene to shoot, and there was an eerie, quiet, subdued atmosphere on set that day.”

Later in the interview, Cooke returned to this scene describing the most challenging scene to shoot so far in the series. “In episode eight, the scene with Dyana where she tells me my son raped her…and also, I had to hit Tom. [Glynn-Carney] very forcefully in the scene,” explained Olivia Cooke. “And Tom, being Tom, said, ‘No, hit me.’ On the first try, I hit him in the chin. And he was like, ‘No, stop talking to me,’ and it actually got to the point where he echoed all over the room, and my hand suddenly had a heartbeat.”

She continued: “Luckily the camera is on Tom and I was completely removed from the scene. [porque estava] trying to suppress a very strange laugh. God only knows what he did to his face. … We only did it once or maybe twice.’”

House of the Dragon Season 1 is available on HBO Max.
