Barbosa has participated in the government’s Transition Economics group; Tereza Campello was mentioned to return to the Social Development portfolio
BRASÍLIA – Previously aiming to take on a portfolio at Esplanada, the former Minister of Urban Planning Nelson Barbasa and the former Minister of Social Development Teresa Campello should work, starting next year, on the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES)🇧🇷 as anticipated by Estadão🇧🇷 The two accepted the invitation of the future president of the bank, the former minister of the civil house Alozio Mercadante, to compose the bank’s board of directors. The final adjustment is up to the area that each one has to take.
Barbosa sat on the government’s Transitional Economy group and was considered to return to planning – or even take over the future Ministry of Management by the President Laureate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The new destination of the former minister, however, should be a council of the BNDES.
Tereza Campello was mentioned to return to the social development portfolio, to be recreated by the elected government. But the ministry is about to be handed over to the senator Simon Tebet (MDB-MS), which finished third in the race for the presidency of the Republic and supported Lula in the second round.
Tereza’s plans can only change if the PT bureaucracy manages to veto Tebet’s social development. A wing of the party invests heavily for the senator to take over Agriculture and leave the portfolio that deals with Bolsa Família and the fight against hunger for the party, a scenario she rejected. Lula, on the other hand, wants to play Simone Tebet in the ministry despite her main allies. The scenario should be defined in the coming days.
