The transitional PEC is issued, which guarantees social benefits

The measure will allow the payment of Bolsa Família of R$ 600

After the votes in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Senate, on the night of this Wednesday (21) the Transitional Proposal for Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) was approved (PEC 32/2022). The decision was issued in the Official Gazette (DOU) earlier this Thursday (22).

Among the main measures is the guarantee that the BRL 600 Bolsa Família allowance will be paid from January this year. Furthermore, the PEC establishes that families with children up to six years of age receive a supplement of R$ 150.

With this, the so-called spending limit will be exceeded by BRL 145 billion in 2023 so that there is money to invest in various social programs that would stop due to lack of budget, as in the case of Farmácia Popular, helping poor family income to buy cooking gas and to make a real rebalancing, i.e. above the inflation of the minimum wage.

The approval is a victory for the government elected in October, under the leadership of future president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and guarantees respect for the electoral promises made to the poorest.

The PEC was approved after the union of the opposition parties and the social situation.

The text also establishes that, by August 2023, the Lula government must send Congress a draft tax regime that replaces the current spending ceiling, which has been disrespected by governments in recent years.

Voting – This Wednesday, the Chamber of Deputies held the second vote on the PEC, as required by the Constitution, after rejecting the inclusion of a climax presented by the PL, the acronym of Jair Bolsonaro.

The result of the second vote was similar to the first: there were 331 votes in favor and 163 against – in the first the score was 331 against 168. Since there was a change to the text approved by the Senate earlier this month, the text returned to the Senators.

The bill had 63 votes in favor and 11 against, all from Bolsonaro’s base in the Senate. 🇧🇷
