Tom Rothman, current president and CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, has confirmed that a new Spider-Man film will be made. The last time Cabeça de Teia premiered on the big screen was in December 2021, with Spider-Man: Never go homewhich ended with a spell that erased all memories of Peter Parker.
When asked about the possibility of a new live-action Spider-Man movie, Rothman didn’t hesitate: “You bet,” he told the The Hollywood Reporter🇧🇷 However, the “when” seems to be far from confirmed. “’When’ you can expect, I don’t know. Don’t serve a wine too early,” she said.
Beyond the “when”, the “who” is still an open question. Despite contract renewal rumors, it remains to be seen whether or not Tom Holland will return as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Amy Pascal, the producer at Sony, has already stated that a new trilogy would happen, but other close to Sony have denied that the plans exist and Pascal has subsequently backtracked on her comments.
Marvel hasn’t announced any new Spider-Man movies either, though the MCU’s entire Phase 5 schedule has already been released, plus several Phase 6 projects. No homecoming became the highest-grossing film post-pandemic with a staggering $1.9 billion, and the financial success is often accompanied by sequels.
While nothing is announced in the world of live-action Spider-Man films, Sony’s Spider-Verse will earn a new chapter, with the arrival of Spider-Man through the Spider-Versewhich will be released in 2023, bringing new adventures from Miles Morales.
Among MCU films, the next release is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummaniawhich will debut on February 16.
