Palmeiras loan left-back Jorge to Fluminense


Unveiled by rival Flamengo, the 26-year-old has a link with the Rio de Janeiro tricolor until December 2023

Without space for Palmeiras, the left full-back George he was confirmed this Thursday as the new reinforcement of Fluminense for the 2023 season. The 26-year-old player, revealed by rival Flamengo, has signed a loan deal with the tricolor carioca until December next year, with an option to buy.

“I confess that I was eager to get here on this big day, to introduce myself to a big club. I know the pressure there will be at Fluminense, that there is a lot of pressure and I’m used to it. I feel very happy to be part of this group that Fluminense has today, I’ll do my best, I’m coming with a great desire to play and be happy,” said the player, in his first words as a Flu player.

The match between Palmeiras and Fluminense had already been anticipated since the beginning of the week. But it was only made official this Thursday, with the signing of the contract, at the Carlos Castilho Training Center, where the winger was already attending and wearing the shirt of his new team.

“I come here to win titles, which the fans are waiting for so much. I enter every training session and every match with that spirit and desire to win to get to the end of important championships, bringing joy to the Italian fans,” said Jorge.

At Palmeiras, the winger had strengthened the team since 2021. At the time he had arrived to contend for the starting position with Piquerez, but the Uruguayan then made himself known, earning the trust of coach Abel Ferreira. Jorge, even after recovering from last year’s injury, ended up relegated to the bench.

With passes in European football, the full-back has already defended the Brazilian national team both in the first team and on base. In 2015 he finished second in the world with the under 20 team. The highlight in the basis of the selection after good performances in the lower categories of Flamengo, where he revealed himself.

In 2017, he got European football experience on his resume. He has moved from Porto, in Portugal, and from Monaco, in French football. Two years later, he returned to Brazil to defend Santos for a short time. He later moved to Basel in Switzerland. And, last year, he was signed by Palmeiras.
