The tournament confirms the top 15, British Norrie
The Rio Open has confirmed yet another name in the line-up for the 2023 edition. Briton Cameron Norrie, world number 14, will join Carlos Alcaraz, Lorenzo Musetti, Dominic Thiem and Diego Schwartzman among those already confirmed for the ninth edition of the ATP 500 carioca.
Holder of four ATP-level titles, Norrie had a 2022 marked by winning the Delray Beach and Lyon trophies, a semifinal at Wimbledon and entering the top 10 for the first time in his career. The Briton returns to the Rio Open for the second time, having already played in the 2019 edition.
The tournament also confirmed Casper Ruud’s withdrawal from the ninth edition of the Rio Open. The Norwegian will not participate in the South American tour due to a change in his 2023 schedule. which caused him to change his mind about touring South America. Part of the ATP calendar since 2014, the Rio tournament has Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Pablo Cuevas, Dominic Thiem, Diego Schwartzman, Laslo Djere, Cristian Garin and Carlos Alcaraz in its great hall of champions. Also names like Fabio Fognini, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Casper Ruud, Kei Nishikori, Marin Cilic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, John Isner, Gael Monfils, Marcelo Melo, Bruno Soares, Thiago Monteiro, Thomaz Bellucci, Marcelo Demoliner, André Sá , Rogério Dutra Silva, among others, has also competed at the Rio Open, with the tournament bringing Brazilian and international champions from the circuit to the country’s tennis fanatics.
In addition to these names, two other Brazilians are already guaranteed in the competition. Maria Esther Bueno Cup winner Mateus Alves won an invitation to the ATP 500 main draw and runner-up Eduardo Ribeiro won an invitation to the qualifiers.
