Cunha had a low season at Atlético de Madrid. Under the guidance of Diego Simeone, he appeared on the pitch 17 times, including only twice as a starter and did not score. The young man was looking for new tunes for 2023.
Lopetegui praised the new reinforcement even before the signing was official. “I’m sure Cunha can do very well in Wolverhampton’s present and future. He is perfect for the Premier League,” the manager said on Monday. “I think he has the profile to play here for many years and develop his skills.”
After being Olympic champion last year, Matheus Cunha earned opportunities for the Brazilian national team with Tite in 2022, but has not established himself in recent months and has been ruled out of the squad for the World Cup in Qatar. There have been eight matches in the cycle for the 2022 World Cup and not a single goal has been scored.
