Peruvian witches and shamans, carrying images of the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, foreshadowed a 2023 peace deal between the two nations on Wednesday during a New Year’s ritual with incense and flowers on a hilltop.
Dressed in multicolored costumes, the shamans climbed to the top of San Cristóbal hill, in the city of Lima, to make their predictions, after spreading a sheet of flowers and coca leaves, with skulls on the ground and incense, in a ceremony which they perform every year at the end of December.
“Ukraine and Russia, a peace will be signed before August, it is already entering that stage; although there will be (moments) of strength these days or months, but then everything will calm down, peace will come, tranquility, that’s what he saw,” said Cleofe Sedano, a sorceress wearing an ornate cap.
Russia on Wednesday rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s 10-point peace plan, saying proposals to end the conflict in Ukraine must take into account what it calls “current realities” of Ukraine’s four regions.
The Ukrainian president furthered his peace plan announced in November, discussing it with US President Joe Biden and other leaders and urging world leaders to hold a world peace summit.
After dancing in a circle and playing Andean instruments, the shamans also posted a photo of the former footballer Pele, also referring to the future of what is considered one of the best footballers of all time. Pele, 82, is battling cancer.
“Pele’s situation is getting worse, his situation is getting worse, his health is getting worse and basically next year (2023) he’s going for glory,” said Cleofe.
Peruvian sorcerers and healers have also predicted natural disasters such as earthquakes and weather events in North America until 2023.
