Federal Deputy Marcelo Freixo (PSB-RJ), appointed to presidency of Embratur in the new Lula government, said now ex-President Jair Bolsonaro should be investigated for any crimes he may have committed during his term, but defended that this should occur without “chasing”.
“Bolsonaro is a leader of the extreme right. This is a fact. I think he will have to answer for crimes. I’m not saying he will be arrested, this or that, that is up to the judiciary,” said the MP, in the Green Room of the Chamber of Deputies. Deputies, upon arrival for the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Commenting on Bolsonaro’s performance in the covid-19 pandemic, Freixo stressed that many people have died as a result of the health crisis and that the former president’s possible responsibility must be investigated.
“He has committed many crimes. The secret will obviously be closed, because it makes no sense. There must be no persecution of anyone, what must be a democratic process,” added the deputy.
The federal deputy also stated that Embratur must promote the country abroad. “Embratur is promoting Brazil abroad,” said the deputy upon arriving at Congress for the inauguration of the president-elect.
“We will do an analysis of the tourism ecosystem. It is a vast sector that generates jobs in various parts of the world. In Brazil there is leisure, business, sports and climate tourism,” he added. The future president of the agency has also promised to resume dialogue in the sector.
Freixo was cited for the Ministry of Tourism, but Lula decided to give command of the portfolio to União Brasil, which chose the deputy Daniela do Waguinho (RJ). The Petitist negotiated space in government for centrist parties with the aim of increasing his parliamentary base in Congress, but ran into difficulties in the negotiations.
