The fourth place in the 2022 Brazilian championship earned Corinthians a direct place in the 2023 Copa Libertadores. Thus, Timão will play two consecutive editions of the continental competition again after seven years, as he also participated in the current season.
In history, the alvinegro club has achieved the feat four times in total. The first was in 1999 and 2000 and then in 2010 and 2011, when it extended its presence until 2013, thus bringing the record to four consecutive years.
The third and last time Corinthians qualified for two consecutive editions of Libertadores was in 2015 and 2016. On both occasions, Timão fell both times in the round of 16, against Guaraní-PAR and Nacional-URU respectively.
In 2022, Corinthians managed to break through the first stage barrier of the knockout stage. However, he was eliminated for Flamengo, who would go on to become champions of the tournament.
Finally, in 2023, the team coached by Fernando Lázaro is in pot 2 of the group stage draw, which will take place on 22 March. In the current edition of the continental competition, Timão is looking for the second title in its history. Furthermore, the club will make its 17th participation in the Libertadores.
