After the holidays, it is good to reduce processed foods, to have a good detox. What foods to consume to eliminate toxins and swelling?
Most Brazilians separate the festive period to leave healthy foods aside and pamper themselves, enjoying banquets with lots of drinks, processed foods and everything to which we are entitled. With this, the body can end up full of toxins and even bloated, deserving special attention in the new year with a good detox, or detoxification of the organism. So what can we do to reduce swelling and rid the body of toxins?
- 3 essential apps for healthy eating
- According to one study, healthy eating increases life expectancy up to 13 years
Canaltech spoke with Dr. Edvânia Soares, Estima Nutrição nutritionist and specialist in Clinical, General and Sports Nutrition to find out how to do a healthier detox, knowing which foods to avoid and which are right to keep the body nourished and prepared to eliminate any excesses.
It is, of course, not no magic elixirs or miracle diets, but some changes to what we eat can already do a great job. According to Dr. Edvânia, after the holidays we should avoid industrialized products, including canned, processed, sausages and the like. The ideal is to replace them all with more organic and natural options.
A healthy body, that is, one that consumes nutrients every day and consumes a variety of foods, will go through the detox at the beginning of the year calmly, being already used to eliminating toxins. However, choose only healthy foods for at least 5 consecutive days, i.e. foods with a high nutritional value, rich in vitamins and vitamins, which will start or restart the body’s purification processes, i.e. cleansing.
What foods in the diet free us from toxins?
What to eat, then, so that the body does this usual detox? According to the doctor. Edvânia, we must prioritize vegetables and fruit, which bring with them several specific advantages. Pineapple, watermelon and papaya are diuretics, they help us eliminate excess fluids and provide enzymes to aid digestion: pineapple brings bromelain and papaya, papain, for example, which participate in the process. Apples, on the other hand, bring astringent substances, which cleanse the body and stabilize the pH, helping to digest food.
We can also consume anti-inflammatory foods such as ginger, turmeric, fennel, organic tomatoes, bell pepper and flaxseed, as well as various salads, which will help with the swelling and inflammation caused by overeating. As a bonus, this also improves our healing and makes the body generally healthier.
And green juice, can it help?
According to the nutritionist yes! Green juice doesn’t work miracles, of course, but it can help a healthy body better deal with dinner excesses. In fact, the drink does not deviate from the recommendations already mentioned here, only changing the way it is consumed. You can make good juice by including a variety of fruit and vegetables, such as apple, mint, cabbage, ginger and orange – generally functional foods, i.e. they accelerate the metabolism and physiological functioning of our body.
A special recommendation is red cabbage, which contains what we call natural sulfur, another anti-inflammatory that will be of great help in eliminating toxins and swelling from the body. Finally, it is worth mentioning that it is not necessary to prepare and consume the mixture only during the detox period, it is good for the whole year. Keeping the body healthy is continuous and persistent work, and it pays to always give it the best: in this way, detoxification will be natural and easy for the body.
