The number 1 series in the Top 10 on Netflix today is Kaleidoscopewhich presents a new experience for users of the streaming platform, offering the possibility of watching the series in the desired order.
Kaleidoscope is the new Netflix anthological series, which arrived in streaming on the first day of the year 2023. The production has eight episodes freely inspired by real-life events, in which 70 billion dollars of securities disappeared in downtown Manhattan during the hurricane Sandy. Kaleidoscope covers 24 years before the theft up to 6 months after.
The series stars Giancarlo Esposito as mentor Leo Pap along with Paz Vega, Rufus Sewell, Tati Gabrielle, Peter Mark Kendall, Rosaline Elbay, Jai Courtney and Niousha Noor. Kaleidoscope has a long synopsis that explains the format of the series well. To look:
“The plot of Kaleidoscope unfolds over 25 years into a groundbreaking anthology that follows an exceptional group of thieves as they attempt a daring heist. But to get their hands on the money, they’ll have to outwit a strong corporate security team and the police. Each episode reveals a piece and little by little the audience composes a complicated puzzle to understand the events. Kaleidoscope is inspired by the true story of $70 billion worth of bonds that disappeared from Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy. In eight episodes, the series shows events starting 24 years before and ending six months after the robbery. This gripping crime anthology creates unrivaled intrigue and suspense through non-linear storytelling. Therefore, there is no logical sequence and each Netflix member can have their own immersive experience. The episodes are named after different colors until they reach the conclusion culminating in the epic “White”. And the most interesting thing is that the order chosen by the viewers will influence their point of view on the story, the characters and the issues related to the theft. Every person will be able to experience Kaleidoscope your way.”
As stated above, Kaleidoscope has a non-linear narrative, with the order chosen affecting one’s view of the story. The production seems to follow in the footsteps of the interactive film released in 2018 Black Mirror: Bandersnatchin which each user can choose a path to follow, including different narratives and endings.
With KaleidoscopeNetflix encourages its audience to watch the first seven episodes in any order they want, before always ending with the final episode, called Pack, which shows the heist itself.
Netflix does not recommend any specific order in which to watch Kaleidoscopeand the order in which they appear for each user on the Netflix platform is also varied, with everyone being able to choose how they want to watch the series.
However, Netflix revealed the chronological order of events, which is not a recommended order, after all, White’s must-watch-last episode is in the middle and must-watch last.
In conversations with New York Postthe creator of Kaleidoscope Eric Garcia explained that even though the series was thought out differently, he doesn’t care if it’s seen out of the desired order, with White’s latest episode: “I feel like we can trust the audience these days. There’s so much on TV and I think people want something different. Some people said, “I’ll look up the order and look at it chronologically.” All right, I have no problem with that. As far as I’m concerned, there is no perfect order.”
Kaleidoscope is available on Netflix.
