“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” will have new costumes for the Pym-Van Dyne family in the post-Apocalypse.
Originally shared by USA Today, this image from the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster features Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) alongside Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly).
All three characters are wearing what many fans describe as post-apocalyptic clothing. The original Ant-Man and his daughter wear capes and draped goggles, while the former Wasp covers her head with a brown hood. While the origin of these new suits is unknown, trailers for the film suggest they are picked up when the characters are transported to the Quantum Realm.
While plot details for “Quantumania” remain scarce, marketing for the film has confirmed that Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and his family of endangered superheroes will need to work together to escape their subatomic fate. In doing so, Ant-Man will have to work with the sinister Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) to achieve his goal, a strategy that will have major consequences for the MCU.
“People were like, ‘Oh, these are fun little palate cleansers after a giant Avengers movie,'” said director Peyton Reed. “For this third one, I said, ‘I don’t want to be the palate cleaner anymore. I want to be the big Avengers movie.
Marvel Studios has confirmed that Kang will be the main antagonist of the Multiverse Saga, continuing a trend established in the Disney+ series “Loki” when it was revealed that a version of him was behind the Time Variance Authority.
Discussing the inspirations behind his portrayal of Kang, Majors explained that Josh Brolin’s Thanos had a huge impact on how he viewed the character. “What Josh Brolin did so well with Thanos was he tried to make him as three-dimensional as possible to make it really clear, you know, and he really believed in that,” the actor said.
“I think with Kang, my goal with every role I play is to make them as universal and human as possible.” The actor explained that what drew him to the role wasn’t that his character was a villain, but something much bigger. “And they said he’s a supervillain, and I said, ‘Hmm, I like that,'” Majors said.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” hits theaters February 17.
