The announcement of the sequel was a matter of time after the impressive box office result of ‘The Batman’
With more than 750 million dollars of collection, that ‘The Batman’ had a continuation was only a matter of time. And so it has been. Warner has confirmed at the CinemaCon in Las Vegas that ‘The Batman 2’ will be a reality and has assured the return of Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight and Matt Reeves in the director’s chair.
‘The Batman’ was released in March 2022 being the highest grossing release of 2022 so far with 134 million dollars on US soil. To date it has accumulated 758 million worldwide, and its premiere on HBO Max has been another great success, with 720,000 US households seeing the film on its first day on the platform.
The critical and public reception has also been quite good, highlighting Pattinson’s tormented interpretation and Reeves’s good pulse behind the cameras, even comparing his style with that of David Fincher.
Although Warner already tested a possible continuation by revealing Barry Keoghan’s Joker deleted sceneUntil today there has been no official confirmation. And, even so, they have not made it clear that the character will appear in the sequel either… Although everything points to yes. The only sure thing is the return of Pattinson, the only actor announced for the next installment.
Matt Reeves stated at the event that he is “excited to return to this worldbut we’ll talk more about this at a future CinemaCon.”
Let’s also remember the spin-off in the form of a series that will star Colin Farrell retaking his character from The Penguin for HBO Maxand another project based on the Gotham police was rumored, which, according to the latest leaks, was turning towards ora series centered on the Arkham asylum.
Warner has not announced more details of ‘The Batman 2’ at the moment, so we are left with doubts about the release date (2024?), the return of the Joker or other characters like Alfred (Andy Serkis) or Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) or the inclusion of new villains and adventure companions such as Robin or Batgirl.
