Corinthians will have open training again! Remember the last time this happened

With Vítor Pereira only two businesses were opened and both in particular situations

Corinthians have announced that this Wednesday’s training session (11) will be open to the press. The trend is that this is frequent again at the club during the technical management of Fernando Lázaro. It was with him, ad interim, the last time that the alvinegro club opened a business at CT Joaquim Grava, on February 23 last year, the very day the signing of the Portuguese Vítor Pereira was announced.

Corinthians will have open training again! Remember the last time this happened

Only two training sessions were opened with Vítor, both on special occasions. The first was on July 8 last year, three days after Corinthians qualified for the Libertadores quarterfinals. In that situation, the triumph of Corinthian was remarkable, as it eliminated the traditional Boca Juniors, from Argentina, in the middle of La Bombonera, Buenos Aires, at a time when Timão had 10 embezzlers. The open training was held at the Neo Química Arena to thank the fans, who propelled Corinthians towards that success and also marked the presentation of striker Yuri Alberto, who had been signed days earlier.

The second time Team do Povo had an open activity during the command of Vítor Pereira was on October 17, 2022, the day before the Copa do Brasil final, and it happened again at the Neo Química Arena. The intention was to push the team to the title, after a goalless draw at home in the first leg. Flamengo fans had already been responsible for eliminating Corinthians in the Libertadores, in the quarterfinals, and were choking. Even so, Coringão did not retain the trophy, losing on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

Corinthians is a team that has had a tradition of constantly open training sessions in recent years. Technicians with a recent history of success, such as Mano Menezes, Tite and Fábio Carille have maintained this practice, although the latter closed for a while on his second visit, in 2019.

With the pandemic of the new coronavirus, in 2020, the opening of training sessions was limited throughout Brazil, for health and sanitary reasons. Even so, Timão was one of the first clubs in the country to reopen its training centre, in early 2022, as security measures against the spread of the virus began to be relaxed. At the time, Sylvinho was still in charge of the club.

However, with Vítor Pereira the practice was vetoed. The Portuguese coach comes from a European model where there is no custom of opening up everyday life to the press. Also, he usually didn’t do team sketches, but worked out his own game ideas with the whole group, so that everyone had an idea of what the coaching staff wanted. Thus, VP understood that the presence of journalists would disrupt the scope of the work.

During his tenure in charge of Corinthians, Vítor also called for an end to common actions at the club, such as the disclosure of related lists and medical bulletins on the eve of matches. This information began broadcasting one hour before the start of the game. For the Portuguese coach, divulging this information in advance could provide ammunition to the opponents.
