Time travel and identity change, this is Leah 7’s life, Netflix’s new French curiosity

Leah hates her life … she will live 7 of them. When she encounters the body of Ishmael, a teenager who disappeared thirty years ago, Leah returns in 1991 and wakes up every morning in another human body. Can he survive?

Created by screenwriter Charlotte Sanson, who co-wrote the screenplay for the TV series Hippocrates and the Netflix movie “How I Became a Superhero,” Les 7 vies de Léa is an adaptation of the novel. 7 Lives of Leo Bellamy By Natal Trapp, Published in 2019.

The protagonist of the book for the series is Leo, a 17-year-old teenager in the midst of an existential crisis who no longer has a taste for life and awakens dark thoughts. But the discovery of a corpse in the Verdun valleys will change his fate. Because on the second day of this macabre meeting, a young girl wakes up in the skin of a dead man, someone Ishmael … in 1991!

But Leah does not end with surprises: every time she sleeps in the past, she goes back to the present, and when she falls asleep in 2021, she goes back 30 years, but in a new body. During the journey, the young girl quickly falls under the spell of Ishmael, who was her parents’s best friend. Then he will do everything in his power to prevent his death.

Parallels at Disney +, according to another recent French TV series where teenagers have to deal with fantastic events, Les 7 vies de Léa is a fascinating feature literature that inevitably generates theories about the causes of Ishmael’s death at the end of each episode. The secret we want to solve as soon as possible!

If the series is not free of flaws (sound transmission is often too much, time travel causes some inconsistencies…), it is generally sympathetic and addresses many of the topics of adolescence. Weakness, self-discovery of sexuality, harassment and, of course, the strength of friendship.

The constant changes in Leah’s body (sometimes found in her parents’s skin) and her adaptation to the 1990s clearly evoke moments of comedy, but emotion also knows how to be represented in Leah’s 7 lives.

Performed by a group of young actors (Raika Hazanavicius, Khalil Ben Gharbia, Myra Schmidt, Alexandre Ferrario, Marguerite Thiam and Theo Fernandez de Tuche), the characters of the series are the most beloved and even the most clichéd characters like tyrant or plague have the right to develop them.

The first season of Leah 7’s life is fully available on Netflix.
