FUP: at least 4 Petrobras refineries targeted for anti-democratic acts

The Unified Federation of Petroleum Workers (FUP) has mapped the evolution of political demonstrations at the Petrobras units by former President Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) allies. Through social networks, the group has called for new acts against the current government in the company’s refineries, with a focus on the Duque de Caxias (Reduc) refinery, in Rio de Janeiro, on Monday 9.

The demonstration takes place one day after the acts of depredation in Brasilia by the Bolsonarists, who do not accept the result of the presidential elections. In a few hours, thousands of extremists destroyed public buildings, injured people and animals, stole weapons. “There were no demonstrators present in Reduc today. But it is worth mentioning several messages circulating on social networks inviting the presence of demonstrators in Reduc and at gas stations in Caxias. The military police are on site,” informed the FUP .

The objective of the undemocratic call is to block the access of tankers to the bases of the fuel distribution companies, on the grounds that without fuel Brazil will stop.

According to the FUP, an assault battalion is on its way to Reduc and will spend the night in vigil to prevent the Bolsonarists from approaching. Previously, the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, and the mayor of the city, Eduardo Paes, had already informed that the security around the refinery would be strengthened.

According to a report by the FUP, early Sunday morning, the military police had to negotiate with protesters who had camped near the Henrique Lage (Revap) refinery, in São José dos Campos, São Paulo. The FUP reported that there were around 50 protesters in the tents. According to the oil workers’ federation, the Military Police are still at the scene and are monitoring the movement.

At the Alberto Pasqualini Refinery (Refap), in Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul, about 100 protesters are concentrated at the entrance to the unit. Military police and federal traffic police are at the scene, according to the FUP. Another unit under threat of protest is Regap, in Betim, Minas Gerais, which also had a call for this on Monday 9, and already has some people encamped and the presence of the military police.

The FUP has listed as preventive measures to avoid cases like the one that happened in Brasilia the strengthening of relations with public security and intelligence bodies; strengthening and doubling of surveillance teams; monitoring of external environments; and raising the security level of the units.

Petrobras has not detailed the measures it is taking to prevent possible attacks and has limited itself to stating that it is maintaining standard procedure. “The refineries are operating normally. Petrobras is taking all necessary preventive protection measures, according to the standard procedure.” reported in a note when requested.
