‘Knives Out’ director denies Elon Musk was based on Edward Norton’s character

Knives Out: The Glass Onion director Rian Johnson responded to viewers’ speculation that Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk was the prototype for Edward Norton’s character. In a dialogue with Variety, the director of the film emphasized that he had no plans to make a parody of the famous billionaire.

Obviously, this film is the result of just living in this world for the last six years. And I just wanted to respond to what’s going on, and I’ve been working pretty hard to make it fun. Much of the film is based on satire,” Johnson said.

The artistic intentions of the director were by no means as specific as it might seem. Johnson didn’t want to make fun of the tech mogul. Much more interesting for him was to show “a strange American feature – to mistake wealth for wisdom or competence.”

On the one hand, we want to throw stones at such billionaires. On the other hand, it seems to me that we all have some kind of fantasy in which we hope that they will turn out to be the good Willy Wonka. And it seems to me more interesting than just laughing at some dude from Texas.

Knives Out: The Glass Onion is a new film about detective Benoit Blanc. It stars Edward Norton as billionaire Miles Bron. Viewers have previously drawn parallels between Musk and Bron. Moreover, given that the film was created before 2022, director Johnson has already been dubbed “modern Nostradamus” on social networks.
