There was a scene from the second episode of the series in which there were many complications… We’ll reveal which one!
Fan of ‘Wednesday’? Surely you are celebrating the news of the confirmation of its second season and that you already know everything about the series (we already showed you the false takes and where it was recorded, for example)… but it is likely that you do not know which scene was the most difficult to shoot in all fiction.
The scene in question occurs in the second chapter, ‘Woe Is the Loneliest Number’ (‘Sadness is lonely’ in Spanish), when Wednesday and her partner Enid participate in the Poe Cup. Both students get on a canoe to compete against other teams, rowing on a lake and trying to hinder and knock down their opponents, to get to the first position. You remember?
Well… apparently all the actors involved in the sequence took great risks and had to have someone assigned to protect their safety on set. Jenna Ortega, for example, needed the help of a double. Various divers and support boats were distributed around the lake at the time of the recording, which lasted several days.
Additionally, the series’ production designer, Mark Scruton, revealed aa’House Beautiful’ that the scene was recorded in the Branesti and Sterbei lakes, near Bucharest (the capital of Romania), where the water temperature was below zero and it was very windy, something that made the recordings even more difficult. Problems on set made the director even decide to repeat one of the most dangerous shots (the moment in which Bianca’s team destroys and sinks one of her competing canoes, crashing it into a buoy) in a swimming pool. Wow!
A few weeks ago, Jenna Ortega herself commented that the suit she wore in this chapter is her favorite in the entire series, even if it prevented her from going to the bathroom normally. “The only thing she kind of sucked at was that in the scene we had to wear a wetsuit underneath that we couldn’t take off and didn’t allow us to pee. The next day, they made some holes for us and tried to make it a little easier, ”commented the actress at the time. All for the perfect shot!
