Johnny Depp returns to the cinema as the King of France on Netflix: see what he looks like in character

Johnny Depp has not only regained his fortune thanks to a talent few knew about, but also his acting career after losing roles due to the lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

In 2016, Amber Heard filed for divorce, claiming she suffered domestic violence. Although Johnny Depp lost the trial held in the UK against The Sun (a newspaper that called him a “wife beater”) in 2020, another trial was held from April 11 to June 1, 2022, where both were convicted guilty of libel.

This issue affected the actor’s career and even cost him his replacement as Grindelwald in the “Fantastic Beasts” saga and made his return to “Pirates of the Caribbean” as Captain Jack Sparrow almost impossible.

But that hasn’t stopped the actor from ‘Diary of a Seducer’ (which you can watch for free on ViX), as Johnny Depp will return as a director after 25 years and star in a historical drama for Netflix.

Johnny Depp’s return to cinema will be in the French period film ‘Jeanne du Barry’, in which he will play the role of King Louis XV, known as the Beloved, who ruled from 1715 to 1774.

The film will tell the story of Jeanne Bécu (Maïwenn), the illegitimate daughter of a poor dressmaker who managed to charm the lovesick Louis XV, to become his last official wife.

But beyond the story and Depp’s role, thanks to the first official images of the film, what has come as a surprise is the characterization of this chameleon actor transforming into King Louis XV.

Months ago, in August 2022, a photo of the actor in his role was shared, but he was only seen in profile and in a black bundle, so his clothes weren’t fully appreciated.

Now in the various shared photos of Depp as the king, he is seen dressed in all the trappings and regalia of the monarchy, including the white wigs used in the 18th century.

In one of the images he is seen with his co-star playing the role of Jeanne Bécu or Madame du Barry as she leans on his shoulder in what appears to be the Palace of Versailles.

The film also stars Pierre Richard, Louis Garrel, Benjamin Lavernhe, Noémie Lvovsky, Melvil Poupaud, India Hair and Pascal Gregory. although the biggest star and weight of the film falls on Johnny Depp.

The film starring and directed by actress Maïwenn will be released in French theaters under the name “La Favorite” in 2023, but will arrive on Netflix worldwide 15 months after its premiere.
