ABA is a psychological approach used to understand the behavior of people with autism The state passes a law that allows schools to apply the ABA technique to assist children with autism
The state educational network can make use of the school inclusion system based on the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) technique aimed at children and adolescents diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The application of the ABA was released through the approval of the law 9.955/22, signed by the deputy Rodrigo Amorim (PTB). The provision was approved by Governor Cláudio Castro (PL) and published in the extra edition of the Official Gazette last Friday (06/01).
A widely used approach to assisting people with autism, ABA is a psychological approach used to understand the behavior of people with the disorder. The therapy includes intensive and individualized teaching of the coping skills of the child with autism to develop independence and a better quality of life.
Among the professionals involved in the process are psychologists, pedagogues, teachers of specialized educational services, teachers of common subjects and other professionals of the school unit to verify the need to apply the method in student development. The intake of the ABA, if necessary, will be done after the shift, so as not to jeopardize the workload of the regular class.
If the students have a satisfactory academic performance or already have other pedagogical or therapeutic accompaniments inside or outside the school environment, adherence to the ABA method will be optional for the parents or guardians.
It will be up to the State Department of Education (Seeduc) to establish partnerships with public universities to train professionals from different areas to participate in the multidisciplinary team focused on assisting students with ASD.
