Minister Tajani returned to comment on the case
The Italian government reiterated this Wednesday (11) its condemnation of the uprising promoted by supporters of Jair Bolsonaro in Brasilia last Sunday (8) and that the former president did not request citizenship in the European country.
“We are monitoring the situation in Brazil. We continue with great concern and condemn what happened, defending democracy and the institutions. We hope that these phenomena of violence are over. Protests must be done in a democratic way, and not by invading the buildings of the institutions ‘, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told Radio Capital.
“The former president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro did not apply for Italian citizenship, I think other family members did, now I don’t know how this story ended,” added the minister. It is known so far that Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro have applied for citizenship in 2020.
Tajani is expected to speak in Parliament on the Brazilian crisis this Thursday (12), since a part of the opposition considers the position of the Italian government insufficient so far and asks for clearer support from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. .
