Broadband Internet service will use Inmarsat’s GX Aviation solution from Global Xpress (GX) satellite network in Ka-band
Emirates airline (Android, iOS) to provide broadband internet to 50 new Airbus A350 aircraft. The Wi-Fi service, which uses Inmarsat’s GX Aviation solution, is expected to start operating in 2024.
The new aircraft will be the first from Emirates to use Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) satellite network. With uninterrupted global coverage, passengers will be able to enjoy high-speed broadband internet, even over the Arctic and the North Pole.
The GX Network currently has five Ka-band satellites. Seven more will be added by Inmarsat. Two of them are Inmarsat-6 commercial communications satellites, which are expected to become operational in 2023; three are satellites in geostationary orbit, which will increase speed, capacity and resilience; and two others, satellites in high elliptical orbit.
