straight! Spoilers for Action Comics #1050!
In the Action Comics No. 1050recently released sees Lex Luthor sacrificing the psychic powers of the Manchester Black around a plot to erase the world’s public knowledge that Clark Kent is Superman – more on that later. After finding the villain, who summons him via a sound signal, the Man of Steel puts on a separate show, featuring a demonstration of powers.
Luthor admits Earth needs Superman, but says he has his own version of Superman. Naturally, the conversation turns to beatings and the villain puts on his famous armor, now enhanced with more resources against the Man of Steel’s powers. It turns out she wasn’t prepared for Clark Kent’s current state.
After going through a period of weakness during the white sun exposure of the war world of Mongul, and after another moment of presumed death on a lost Earth of the Multiverse, Superman is back with his powers even stronger, including new abilities. .
To get an idea suffice it to say that Luthor teleported the Man of Steel in the middle of the battle and Clark returned to where he was immediately, releasing a red radiation that incapacitated Luthor’s armor. Also, with just one touch, Superman was able to dismantle every piece of the villain’s suit.
“My mind and body are stronger than ever. Concepts like weight, distance and temperature, even space-time, have lost much of their meaning to me,” says the Man of Steel, in a demonstration of power never seen in comics for a long time. We’ll still see this new phase unfold, but it’s still exciting, isn’t it?
The return of the secret identity
A few years ago, there was a lot of pressure for an explanation as to why people don’t associate Clark Kent with Superman. This also happened due to the lack of secret identities of heroes in cinema, as many no longer lead double lives in Marvel and DC films.
For a time, DC came up with several “scientific” explanations, such as Superman applying mass hypnosis, among other justifications that readers “lost”. But, over time, some stories, such as Big stars: Superman, suggested that everyone knows Clark Kent is the Man of Steel, but pretends not to because he understands his mission. Until in 2020, during the saga of screenwriter Brian Bendis, Clark Kent reveals to the world that he is the hero.
Now, a short time later, with Lex Luthor’s plan Action Comics No. 1050 involving Manchester Black’s psychic powers, only a small fraction of the world knows Superman’s true identity. And, according to an analysis by Batman, even things that can prove Clark Kent is the Man of Steel, like videos and photos, can’t reveal his once-secret identity.
According to Batman, it’s not as if people have forgotten who Clark is, rather that their minds simply reject the association of his civilian identity with that of the hero. This is a solution to revelation, which made many people miserable not so long ago. And it’s also a way to bring back more emotional storylines from Lois Lane and other supporting characters, who have started to protect themselves more due to the fact that many villains know who Kal-El’s loved ones are.
We will continue to follow what this new phase of Superman will be like, more powerful than ever and with his secret identity returned.
