Batman 2 director confirms he’s working on sequel

Director Matt Reeves has confirmed he is working on a sequel to Batmana DC film starring Robert Pattinson that premiered in 2022. Although the studio and the DC Universe have undergone several changes in recent months, the director explained how this has not interfered with the development of the future film.

Reeves’ comments were made in an interview with collider. Batman arrived last year to a sensation among critics and fans alike, grossing more than $770 million at the worldwide box office. This led to Warner Bros. quickly confirming the development of a sequel and a few spin-off series.

However, after WarnerMedia merged with Discovery, founding Warner Bros. Discovery, the future of the DC Universe has become increasingly uncertain as the months go by. The company has canceled the projects in favor of a new ten-year plan to unify the franchise, something similar to the plans of competitor Marvel.

In August 2022, Matt Reeves signed a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, which made many believe that the future of this “universe Batmanwould be safe. However, with the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran in October at the helm of DC Studios, doubts have arisen.

The duo was tasked with bringing movies, series, and even games into a single narrative. While Gunn and Safran haven’t revealed their plans for the DC Universe yet, some controversial decisions have already been made by them, including that Jason Momoa may stop living as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, Wonder Woman 3 was canceled and Henry Cavill will never return as Superman.

With this, the doubts about the sequences of the Batman by Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves has emerged. But the director reassured fans in a recent interview. When asked by Collider if he was making a movie this year, Reeves declined. “I won’t answer that question, but we are working on a film. I’ll explain it to you this way.

Then the director of Batman he revealed, “We’re into this and my partner and I are writing, Mattson [Tomlin] and I’m writing, and it’s really exciting, and I’m really excited about what we’re doing. Tomlin, it’s worth noting, worked with Reeves on the screenplay for Batman.

During the interview, Reeves also said that he is “very excited to be doing this with [Robert Pattinson], because I think he’s such a special person and actor. So while Gunn and Safran’s DC Universe changes have put the sequel’s future in question, Batman of Pattinson and Reeves, unless something radically changes, fans can’t wait to see it happen.

Batman 2 does not yet have an official title or release window released. The first film is available on HBO Max.
