After the decision of Suzuki leave the MotoGP at the end of the 2022 season, Alex Rins joined the LCR extension to compete in the premier class championship this year. The transition from Spanish takes place at a time when the drivers of the honda have encountered difficulties with the equipment, so much so that the Japanese brand has already recorded its second consecutive year without reaching the top step of the podium.

During the tests carried out in November, after the Valencia GP, which marked the end of last season, Kidneys had his first contact with the Japanese motorcycle. After clocking only 20th fastest time in the standings, the Spaniard admitted he was having difficulties and hadn’t fully adapted to the new equipment yet.

Mir prepares for ‘more pressure’ and assumes Honda are having a ‘difficult time’

Mir says he is “proud” of his arrival at Honda and evaluates: “I’m in an important moment”

“The truth is that it was a strange feeling, it was complicated because it’s a very different bike from the Suzuki. But I have to say I didn’t think it was such an ugly bike,” he said. “What I found most difficult was the response of the engine, the connection between the throttle and the power, with the rear wheel, is very sensitive, there is no bass and there is a lot of highs. Despite spending its six seasons in MotoGP just driving by SuzukiRins says he will not try to develop the model honda to make it more like the GSX-RR, his old bike. The Spaniard put his problems aside and said he believed in Inter’s potential RC213V.

“I liked it [da RC213V]. It didn’t feel easy to ride, because all bikes are difficult, but it has a lot of potential. I think arriving at Honda with or without experience on another bike is the same thing” explained the Spaniard.

“It is true that the Suzuki there was so much more [desempenho] cornering, but that doesn’t change the fact that I’ve been on the same bike for six years and now I’m in Honda,” he continued. “I told the Honda guys that my idea isn’t to make a copy of the Suzuki bike. Honda will have its bad stuff, but also its good stuff. I will always tell them how I did at Suzuki, not to make a bike like that, but to put everything on the table”, concluded Álex.

Kidneys he will still have plenty of time to adjust to working arrangements in his new home. After all, the championship MotoGP will only start on March 26, with the Portuguese GP.
